The fire that engulfed the Gorica hill in Podgorica last night was contained around one o'clock this morning, "Vijesti" unofficially learns.
The fire covered most of the surface, as well as the forests. The Acting Commander of the Protection and Rescue Service of the Capital City, Zdravko Blečić, said last night that the fire was most likely caused by fireworks.
The Deputy Mayor of the Capital City, Luka Rakčević, in a post on his Instagram profile, said that "the first part of the fire, which was noticed at 21 p.m. near the top plateau of Gorica, was most likely caused by reckless lighting of fireworks."
"On that occasion, certain persons were deprived of their liberty and handed over to the prosecutor's authorities. And just when we managed to defend the oak forest, the encroachment of which would have far-reaching consequences, another fire broke out, some 300 meters away from all the hot spots that were active at the time, which , unfortunately, indicates a new subterfuge," Rakčević said.
He emphasized that the investigation will be conducted in cooperation with the Police Directorate. Rakčević said that during the firefighting, two men were slightly injured.
"Thanks to the efforts of everyone, especially Jasna Gajević and Zdravko Blečić, we removed and carried away more than 1.300 cubic meters of dry burned trees from Gorica in the previous months. If it had remained on the hill, as it had been for years (since the last big fire) , tonight's activities would be incomparably more difficult, and I'm afraid that we would have to put out the fire for days," Rakčević said.

Blečić said in Colors of the Morning on Television Vijesti that the action to extinguish the fire was quite difficult and that the wind blew it in several directions.
"We had to defend the spread towards the hill and Ludviga Kuba Street. Extinguishing the fire took a long time. The fire also developed in the northeast direction, in the area of Atinska Street, where the fire began to spread and threatened to endanger nearby buildings," said Blečić.
Last night, due to the fire, CEDIS switched off the 10 kV transmission line "Vojni logor" as a precaution.
Users from Mosor, part of Zlatica, part of Rogam, Smokovac, Peuta, Gornja and Donja Vrbica, Sjenica and part of Medun were, for a certain time, without electricity.
