A brown bear cub, five to six months old, which had been staying in the ethnic village "Vuković" in the municipality of Bijelo Polje for the past few days without the permission of the competent authorities, has been returned to its natural habitat.

The bear cub was returned to nature in good physical condition after being taken over by representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management and after consultations with representatives of the Nature Protection Agency and other reference experts on this issue.

"We point out that it is forbidden to keep game and other wild species of animals in closed or fenced areas, i.e. captivity in inappropriate conditions and without proper care, as well as without the permission of the competent authorities", announced the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management.

They appealed to citizens not to take such individuals from nature, because such behavior is subject to criminal liability.

"Also, citizens are requested that in case of possible finding of abandoned individuals or individuals that have fallen into some other trouble (e.g. a poacher's trap, falling into a well or some other area from which they cannot rescue themselves), of all wild animal species, about immediately notify the nearest game wardens, ranger service, inspection service or some other state institution," the announcement reads.
