Alarming data on the number of students in Pljeval schools: The desks are almost empty, and it will be even worse

In eleven village primary schools in Pljevlja this year, 12 students were enrolled in the first grade, and from that number, four schools will not have a first grader in the classrooms from September 1st.

This was confirmed to "Vijesti" by the heads of rural schools, who expect an even greater drop in the number of students in the coming years.

Around 160 students will attend classes in all eleven schools next school year.

Due to the lack of children, many rural schools are threatened with closure in the foreseeable future, and the most difficult situation is in the Elementary School "Živko Džuver" in Bobovo, where only two students attend classes.

The director of the school, Željko Mrdak, told "Vijesti" that this year, like several previous ones, there were no registered champions. In the following years, he points out, there will be no registration of champions either, because there are currently no children of preschool age in the village.

"In the next school year, only two students will attend classes in our school. One student is in the sixth grade, and the other is in the eighth grade. This year, like the previous few, we have no registered champions. The situation is such that there will be no enrollment of new students in the coming years either, so the school is threatened with closure in the foreseeable future," said Mrdak.

According to the data he published in the book "Pljeval Education until 1998." former Pljeval teacher Vidoje Despotović, in 1964/65, 278 students attended the elementary school in Bobovo, and in 1997/98, that number dropped to 52 students.

In that school year, a total of 763 students were enrolled in rural schools in Pljeval, and 3.698 in urban schools.

Apart from Bobovo, not a single student was enrolled in the first grade in the elementary schools in the mining settlement of Šula, then Kosanica, and Matarugam.

Although it is located not far from the city, there were no first-year students enrolled in the elementary school "Radoje Tošić" in the village of Srdanov grob this year either. No one was enrolled in the first grade in this school last year either. The director of the school, Sandra Ljubojević, said that a total of 22 students attend classes at that school, three of them in the home school in the village of Brvenica.

The most students in the rural area are enrolled in the "Mihailo Žugić" Elementary School in Odžak - six, of which one student is enrolled in the Regional Department in the village of Borovica. The director of the school, Ika Vujanović, told "Vijesta" that this year, three more children were enrolled in the first grade at that school than last year. A total of 50 students attend classes at this school. The school in Odžak, ten kilometers from Pljevlja, is one of the few where the number of students this year is slightly higher than last year.

In the "Brotherhood and Unity" Elementary School in the village of Kovačević, which belongs to the most distant local community of Pljevlja, Bukovica, classes will be attended by fifteen students next school year, one student more than last year. The director of the school, Marko Stevanović, said that this year they enrolled one child in the first grade, but that in the following years there will be no children ready for school. Ten students used an extended stay at the boarding school, where they were provided with breakfast and lunch, and three students also spent the night at the boarding school on weekdays due to the long distance from home.

In the Primary School "Jakub Kubur" in Boljanići, unlike last year when there were none, this year two champions were enrolled. Director Dubravka Peruničić confirmed this to "Vijesta". 1 students will attend classes in that educational institution from September 16.

Without a champion this year, as well as the previous one, there was "Mataruge" Primary School, which is located in the village of the same name. The school said that there probably won't be any enrollment of new students in the coming years either. Ten students attend that school, seven of them in the home school, one student in the Regional Department in Kozica and two students in Obarde, who have finished the fifth grade and it is uncertain whether they will continue their education in the home school. In the home school, three students are attending the ninth grade this year, so this educational institution will remain with only seven students next year.

One child was enrolled in the first grade this year at the "Mile Peruničić" Elementary School in the village of Maoče, which is located ten kilometers away from Matarug. 11 students attend classes from the first to the eighth grade at the school.

In the Elementary School "Dušan Ivović" in the village of Kosanica, not far from Đurđević Tara, as last year and this year, not a single first-grade student was enrolled. A total of 14 students will attend classes in that school next school year.

There are no champions enrolled in the "Vladimir Rolović" Elementary School in the mining settlement of Šula either, while two champions are enrolled in the "Radoje Kontić" Primary School in neighboring Gradac. In Šuli, the number of students dropped to ten, and in Gradac to six. For a long time, the number of students in the elementary school in the village of Kruševo has been in the single digits.

The situation in the three city primary schools, where only 165 students were enrolled this year, is also alarming. 68 champions were enrolled in "Salko Aljković" Elementary School, "Ristan Pavlović" Elementary School 65 and "Boško Buha" Elementary School 32.

In the "Tanasije Pejatović" Gymnasium, only 48 students are enrolled in the first grade of the General Gymnasium. A total of 170 students are enrolled in the Secondary Vocational School, 121 in eight courses of the fourth degree and 49 students in seven courses of the third degree.

Only 165 students were enrolled in the three city primary schools this year. 68 students were enrolled in the Salko Aljković Elementary School, 65 in the Ristan Pavlović Elementary School, and 32 in the Boško Buha Elementary School.
