Niković: Patient slapped emergency doctor in Nikšić, institutions to respond immediately

The doctor of the Emergency Medical Service in Nikšić was physically attacked by a patient today, prim. mr sci. Dr. Med. Vuk Niković, Director of the Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance of Montenegro

According to Niković, the patient slapped the doctor.

They are currently giving statements to the police.

Niković called on the institutions to react urgently and determine the reason for the frequent attacks on healthcare workers.

"For now, we don't have an epilogue to the previous attack," said Niković.

Niković also announced on July 20 that an attack on the emergency medical team - doctors and medical technicians - took place that day, about one hour after the rescue, in the premises of the Emergency Medical Service in Nikšić, during the provision of medical intervention.

At the time, the Police Administration said that they were taking actions within their jurisdiction in relation to that event.

Health Minister Vojislav Šimun condemned the attack and said that he would initiate stricter measures in case of attacks on medical workers.

On July 26, the Government of Montenegro instructed the Ministry of Justice to consider the possibility of introducing a special criminal offense of assault on persons performing health care activities through amendments to the Criminal Code.

At the meeting of the Vice Prime Ministers for the Political System, Justice and Anti-corruption, Momo Koprivica and Šimun, which was held on July 23, it was concluded that the Ministry of Health will propose to the Government of Montenegro an examination of the possibility of changing the legal regulations in order to specify and tighten the penal provisions in the case of attacks and abuse of medical personnel. workers at the workplace and during the performance of official duties.
