Of particular importance for us will be the experience of Italy when it comes to laws dealing with confiscation of property acquired through criminal activities, announced the Minister of Justice Bojan Božović.
The Ministry of Justice announced that Božović met with the Italian ambassador to Montenegro, Andrea Marcela.
The announcement states that Božović thanked Marcela for Italy's support to Montenegro, especially when receiving the IBAR, for personal congratulations and wishes, and pointed out that he expects concrete, expert, friendly help from official Rome in the coming period as well.
"We have a serious job ahead of us when it comes to Chapters 23 and 24. We have to reform many regulations and pass some new ones. Of particular importance for us will be the experience of Italy when it comes to laws dealing with confiscation of property acquired through criminal activities," said Božović.
The Minister said that the focus of the Ministry of Justice, in the coming period, will be on regulations related to: domestic violence, protection and rights of children, gender-sensitive issues and protection of other vulnerable groups.
Marcela said that Montenegro can count on the full support of Italy when it comes to fulfilling all the conditions for obtaining full membership in the European Union (EU).
Congratulating Božović on his position as minister, Marsela pointed out that Italy had always believed in and supported Montenegro's European path without reservation.
"Even when no one in Brussels mentioned EU enlargement, we openly advocated the position that it was necessary for political and geopolitical reasons. We especially supported Montenegro, which took the lead in fulfilling EU requirements," said Marcela.
The Ministry of Justice said that Marsela and Božović also discussed international legal cooperation and reached full agreement that accepted international standards must be respected in that area.
