The Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, Damjan Ćulafić, together with the director of the Montenegrin Coast Regional Waterworks, Borislav Ivanković, visited the location in the bed of the Morača River, in the Second Sanitary Protection Zone of the spring "Boljesestra", where works are being carried out on the construction of a temporary sand foundation and said that in the short term the solution gives adequate results.
"It is unnecessary to say how important water is for the population, and I am glad that I have the opportunity to see that the works are proceeding according to the planned dynamics. The experimental project that was carried out last year showed that this is a short-term solution that gives adequate results, so I am very satisfied", said Ćulafić, as announced by the Regional Waterworks.
They indicate that the construction of the temporary sand constitution aims to continue further investigations and monitoring that will provide the necessary data for the creation of sanitary protection zones in accordance with the Government's conclusions from the session held on June 13. The construction of the temporary sand constitution, they add, will also serve as an experiment that precedes the rehabilitation of the Morača river bed, "which is ecologically threatened and whose revitalization is being worked on by World Bank teams".
Ćulafić also said that the relevant ministry will provide financial, institutional and logistical support to the Regional Water Supply.
"Everything that science says will be the subject of our consideration. It has been shown that when science is respected, especially their work methodology, it gives good results. From the position of Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, I will support scientific research and experiments, as well as projects that come as an effective result of that research. In the end, I believe that we will achieve long-term results," said the minister.
Ivanković pointed out the importance of cooperation with the ministry.
He reminded that the temporary sand constitution should, like last year, provide additional amounts of water, in order to overcome the problem with the abundance of the source of "Boljesestra".
"We expect to finish the constitution in the next ten days, because now August is coming, when the abundance of both our and local springs on the Montenegrin coast is at its lowest. With this embankment, we will get additional quantities and provide the necessary quantities of water for all municipalities on the Montenegrin coast," he said.
Ivanković also said that the experiment showed that the yield of the "Boljeestra" spring has increased. "With these additional quantities, I think we will ensure uninterrupted water supply on the coast," he said.
The regional waterworks states that the current supply is at a satisfactory level, and in addition to the contracted quantities, an additional 510 l/s was delivered in July.
"These days we had about 730 additional l/s, which is about 40 percent above the agreed amount of water and we think that the water supply is in the best order. In August, the contracted quantities are 590 liters, and the maximum quantity of water we delivered on August 4, 2022 was 773 l/s, and this year, in the peak season, we expect the quantity of water delivered to be from 770 to 780 l/s Ivankovic said.
