The supervisor of the Prokletije National Park Protection Service, Sirhan Mrkulić, was presented with an award for his contribution to the protection and preservation of the natural and cultural values of that protected area.
The national parks of Montenegro marked the World Ranger Day -. July 31, by presenting an appropriate recognition to Mrkulić, with the aim, as they announced, to draw attention to the complexity and challenges faced by the NPCG Protection Services in their work.
The award was presented to Mrkulić by NPCG assistant director for protection, sustainable development and tourism Ivana Milović and director of the Prokletije National Park Miralem Metjahić.
"By presenting the award to the supervisor of NP Prokletije, we symbolically awarded the award to all supervisors in the Protection Services of NPCG, because their work contributes to the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of the most valuable areas of Montenegro," Milović said.
As she said, a fire broke out 20 days ago that could not be approached due to the inaccessibility of the terrain, but that Mrkulić, thanks to his experience and sacrifice, managed to fight the fiery element and protect Grebaje and that part of the National Park. She also emphasized the work of all NPCG Protection Services, which are "24 hours a day, 365 days a year", the first in the line of defense of protected areas in suppressing illegal activities, and are available to visitors and all users of the space.
Metjahić also emphasized the work of Mrkulić and the overall dedication of the Protection Service during the firefighting in that park.
"With a quick reaction and dedication, supervisor Mrkulić extinguished the fire in a short period of time, where not only nature but also the property of the local population was endangered. In that name, in front of the National Park and in my own name, I thank him for his selfless commitment," he said.
World Ranger Day is celebrated around the world on July 31 to honor them for the work they do in different conditions, act in crisis situations and fight various irregularities in the field - all with the aim of protecting and preserving nature. The World Ranger Day has been celebrated since 2007, and it was established by the International Ranger Federation, NPCG reminds.
