All fires in Montenegro are currently under control and do not endanger human lives or residential buildings, but they cause some damage to the country's ecosystem, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced.
The MUP said that there are currently active fires in Podgorica in the town of Radovče, then in the municipality of Nikšić, the localities of Drenoštica, Milojevići, Konjsko, in Danilovgrad Gornji Zagarač, Studeno and Štitovo, as well as in part of the Cetinje municipality of Markovina and in the coastal region in the municipalities of Bar and Budva.
They added that the fires in other municipalities are of lower intensity and are under the constant supervision of local protection and rescue services.
"Although the Ministry of Internal Affairs - Directorate for Protection and Rescue and other entities in the system have taken the necessary preventive measures and actions, the situation with fires in the territory of Montenegro is becoming increasingly complex these days. All appeals, bans on lighting fires in open spaces and numerous other activities did not give the expected result. Unfortunately, these days, irresponsible individuals, almost in sync, on the entire territory of the country, cause fires that cause significant damage to the eco system of Montenegro, and at the same time endanger human lives and material goods of citizens," the statement reads.
They stated that the complete system of protection and rescue was put into operation with all available human and material and technical capacities.
"In this context, the Directorate for Protection and Rescue invited members of the protection and rescue services from the north to help their colleagues in the central part of the country in extinguishing the fire. In this way, we strengthened the resources for the response in the most critical places and ensured the replacement of firefighters, considering that multi-day fires also cause their physical exhaustion. We hereby welcome and praise the exceptional dedication and perseverance of the firefighters - rescuers in the fight against the fire element," said the MUP.
They said that the Directorate for Protection and Rescue permanently monitors the situation on the ground and, in accordance with its competences, "undertakes activities that enable a better and more organized response in the fight against fires".
"In order to provide a faster and more efficient response, we monitor the terrain from the air every day and, in communication with the protection and rescue services, we engage the resources of the Air-Helicopter Unit. The Protection and Rescue Directorate thanks the citizens who volunteered or at the request of the competent services to extinguish the fire these days. At the same time, we invite the general public to share their knowledge about the causes of the fire with the representatives of the protection and rescue system by calling the numbers 112,123, 122 and XNUMX, to which they can also report the occurrence of a fire," the announcement concludes.
