Crops grown by the hardworking hands of four households on the territory of Zeta are finally adequately protected thanks to a donation from the Center for the Protection and Study of Birds (CZIP), Lovćen Bank and EuroNatur Foundation, it was announced today from the CZIP.
"A total of 2.650 meters of donated nets will protect not only crops but also birds that are victims of inadequate replacement methods of crop protection. Namely, this is a problem that CZIP has been pointing out for years and which is very pronounced on agricultural land in the Zeta area. Trying to protect crops from birds, farmers often protect their arable land with old fishing nets. However, this causes a huge problem for birds, because such nets are a trap in which they are easily entangled, and in which they are trapped for several days, and die due to lack of water and food." it is emphasized in the announcement of CZIP.
From that non-governmental organization (NGO), they added that their ornithologists often came across horrific scenes of entangled birds, including species from the list protected by law, as well as species that are threatened at the European level.
"During this and the next year, the efficiency of the divided nets will be monitored, and at the same time we plan to continue promoting good agricultural practices that contribute to the reduction of negative impacts on the living world. Please note that the Municipality of Zeta offers subsidies in the amount of 40% for the purchase of protective nets, so all interested farmers can contact the administration of the Municipality for more information," the CZIP press release says.
