MUP: Submitted software for keeping electronic records of human trafficking cases

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has been given software developed for keeping electronic records of cases of human trafficking, which will enable the generation of official statistics on cases of human trafficking at the national level, the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced today.

The announcement states that the software was handed over during a meeting between the Acting Director General of the Directorate for International Cooperation, European Integration and Projects in the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Tijana Šuković, and the Head of the Mission of the International Organization for Migration, Vladimir Gjorgjiev.

The statement adds that the meeting discussed projects that are jointly implemented in the areas of integrated border management, migration and the fight against human trafficking.

Šuković pointed out that, bearing in mind that as a country we are entering a more demanding phase of the negotiation process, the establishment of this software solution will strengthen the capacities of the authorities for criminal prosecution of human trafficking, i.e. improve the data collection system according to established standards, which will enable the monitoring of current trends and the creation of qualitative analyses, as a basis for creating future policies in this area.

"I express my gratitude to the International Organization for Migration for the continuous support they provide to the Ministry and in strengthening capacities in the area of ​​migration management, including the improvement of border control and cross-border cooperation," Šuković said.

Gjorgjiev emphasized that the handover of the software, which was developed according to the needs of the Ministry of Interior, is essential for the improvement of the entire system of monitoring and analyzing cases of human trafficking.

"This activity plays a vital role in strengthening the institutional capacities of Montenegro to fight human trafficking and organized crime. This directly contributes to fulfilling the recommendations of the European Commission and harmonizing with EU standards in chapters 23 and 24, especially in terms of the rule of law, protection of human rights and migration. It also confirms the successful and continuous cooperation between the MUP and the IOM," the MUP statement says.

From that government department, they said that the activity was implemented within the framework of the regional project of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) "Joint action of the Western Balkans against migrant smuggling and human trafficking" and that at the same time it was the result of good regional cooperation in the cross-border exchange of good practices, since it relies on to successful conceptual models that have been implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
