The material that was deposited in the settlement of Straševina in Nikšić, due to which the locals protested, was disposed of by employees of a business entity from that city, and the Center for Ecotoxicological Testing and the Environmental Protection Agency assessed that it was not dangerous, the Police Administration announced.
"Through the on-call service of the Nikšić Security Department, on August 01.08.2024, XNUMX, a group of citizens from Nikšić reported to the Police Directorate that on their properties located in the town of Straševina, in Nikšić, as well as in the immediate vicinity of them, which are state-owned, and located near railway infrastructure, deposit and store hazardous material, similar to grit.
Acting on the aforementioned report, notifications were collected from the appointees, after which the prosecutor on duty at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić was informed, who ordered further measures and actions to be taken with the aim of elucidating all the circumstances of importance for the event in question, after which he will declare the legal qualifications", according to the police statement.
As it is pointed out, the on-site investigation was carried out by the police officers of the Nikšić Security Department, in cooperation with the officers of the Directorate for Inspection Affairs - Ecological Inspection, as well as with the officers of the Center for Ecotoxicological Testing, who seized several samples of questionable material from the site for further expertise. The Environmental Protection Agency officials also took samples from the scene for further expertise, the statement added.
"Police officers of the Nikšić Security Department, taking further measures and actions, came to know that the employees of a business entity based in Nikšić were depositing and disposing of disputed material, from which notifications related to the event in question were also collected.
"The Center for Ecotoxicological Testing and the Environmental Protection Agency submitted expert opinions and analyzes to the Security Department in Nikšić, stating that it is not a dangerous material," the police said.
The police said that the acting prosecutor in the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Nikšić was informed about the above, who requested that the complete case files be submitted to him for assessment and opinion, after which he will issue a final legal qualification.
