LGBT Forum Progress welcomes the establishment of the Register of perpetrators of crimes against sexual freedom committed to the detriment of minors, which represents a key step towards improving the protection of our children and the prevention of sexual violence by the Ministry of Justice of Montenegro, which is the first and very important step in the prevention of sexual violence against children, announced is from this non-governmental organization.
"This is a long-awaited and significant mechanism in the fight against sexual violence against minors. The establishment of this registry enables institutions to effectively monitor perpetrators and ensure that persons convicted of such acts are not in a position to harm children again. State authorities, legal entities and entrepreneurs now have a legal obligation to check whether the person they want to employ is registered in this record, which additionally ensures the protection of children and prevents the possibility of repeating these heinous crimes," emphasized Bojana Jokić, president of LGBT Forum Progres.
Sexual violence against children is particularly worrisome because it affects the most vulnerable members of society, said the organization.
"Children who are victims of sexual abuse often suffer from serious psychological problems that can hinder their emotional and social development. Research has shown that sexual abuse of children can lead to behavioral problems, learning difficulties, low self-esteem and lasting problems in establishing healthy relationships in adulthood.
We hope that this register, with its detailed data on convicted persons, will contribute to the creation of a safer environment for everyone, that it will not be a dead letter on paper, and we call on all competent authorities and institutions to comply with the prescribed obligations and thereby ensure the consistent application of the law and prevention of sexual violence against children", the announcement concludes.
