In 15 days of August, the Nikšić firefighters-rescuers had 163 interventions when it comes to fires, which means that they extinguished almost 11 fires per day. Including other interventions, members of the Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service responded 172 times in the first half of August, while during June and July they had about 50 interventions related to outdoor fires.
There are currently active fires in Budoš and Studenacki glavici. And while there are no endangered buildings in Budoš, the fire in Studenacki glavici is close to old military buildings and it is under control.
"This year is one of the moderate ones, and certainly easier than the 2021 or 2022 fire season. The most critical areas with the most forest areas were Štitovo and Ivanje - Konjsko, while the most critical was in the town of Drenoštica, when a large number of houses and auxiliary buildings were threatened. Although the wind made extinguishing difficult, we managed to put out the fire and save the houses and auxiliary facilities", Goran Tripković, department commander of the Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service, told "Vijesta".
They managed to put out almost all reported fires in the initial phase, except for the fire that happened this week when the dressing rooms of FK Polet Stars burned down.
"In the municipal fire-rescue unit, we have a total of 64 operational workers who participate in interventions. This number is sufficient for moderate seasons like this one, but for stronger seasons, such as some from the beginning of this decade, a successful fight would require a much larger number of firefighters-rescuers, which, unfortunately, are not available on the labor market," Tripković pointed out. .
When it comes to the municipality of Plužine, they can boast that the fire season was good until Sunday, August 11, when the fire in the village of Nikovići, on Piva mountain, engulfed the coniferous forest. The fire threatened some private buildings, as well as spreading to the surrounding villages, Jeriniće and Babiće, but this did not happen thanks to the timely intervention of the Plužine Protection and Rescue Service, and the locals, as well as the employees of the "Piva" Nature Park, helped put out the fire. , the utility company and the Plužina forest administration.
"The fire is still active, but we are keeping it under control so that it does not spread further. There are no endangered houses and buildings. We also had the help of the helicopter units of the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro, which extinguished the fire for two days and helped us to localize the fire and bring it under control," said Mirko Cicmil, commander of the Plužina Protection and Rescue Service, to "Vijesta".
