The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MPNI) initiated amendments to the Law on Higher Education with the aim of increasing, not reducing, student scholarships and loans, as some political actors are trying to present, the MPNI announced.
The Government said that their proposal, which received a positive opinion from the Ministry of Finance, stipulated that the amount of the student scholarship be increased from 225 euros to 300 euros.
"While the amount of student loans, the amount of which so far was in the range of 112 to 161 euros, will amount to 150 to 214 euros, for which funds are provided by the budget rebalancing", the statement added.
The MPNI said that they submitted a proposal for amendments to the Law on Higher Education as part of the amendments to the set of laws that would enable the implementation of the Europe Now 2 program.
They explained that the proposed changes were initiated in order to bring the Law on Higher Education into line with the regulations governing the minimum wage in Montenegro, the increase of which is foreseen by the Europe Now 2 program.
"By proposing a legal solution by which the amount of student loan and scholarship fees will be determined by the Government Decision, MPNI and the Government have a prosperous thinking that aims to enable a simpler change in the amount of student loan and scholarship fees, only and exclusively with the aim of increasing them, and never reducing them" , the statement said.
The MPNI said that they are sure that this measure, combined with the compensation for professional training, which has been increased from 450 to 600 euros per month and the minimum wage for university students, which is planned to increase from 450 to 800 euros, will enable the creation of a much better environment for young people who, as they stated, are the most valuable resource.
In this way, the MPNI and the Government, as it is added, continue to implement a set of measures related to improving the position of young people, continuously encouraging and motivating them and creating much better conditions for their life and work.
"Because it is precisely these young people, today's students, who represent a key resource for the further development of Montenegro as the first next member of the European Union", the announcement concludes.
