The forest fire in Kolašin has not yet been extinguished, the locals saved the cemetery and houses on one side of the hill from the fire.

The forest fire, which started yesterday, in the Kolašin village of Kos has not yet been extinguished, and according to the locals, "three lines of fire" are currently active.

Attempts to localize the fire did not yield results, so, as activist and journalist Vuk Vujisić wrote on social networks, "the element of fire, reinforced by the wind, is swallowing the oak and beech forest." He says that during the night, the locals managed to save the cemetery and houses on one side of the hill from the fire.

According to Vujisić, the fire is intensified by a large amount of wood waste, as he claims, caused by disobeying forest rules during felling, but also by the wind, which changes directions.

The backpacks that the locals received from the Protection and Rescue Service (SZS) are not enough to put out the fire in such a terrain, so Vujisić wrote on social networks that the intervention of "helicopters and air tractors" is needed because, if that is not possible, as he explained, "three lines of fire can become a problem for the surrounding forests and households, which are even more difficult to access".

"Extinguishing with knapsacks was impossible due to the wind and a large amount of wood waste, that is, due to non-compliance with the forest order at the intersection. We tried to put out the fire in the forest and smaller vegetation, and we pushed the fire away from a part of the oak forest and the cemetery... Considering the movement of the wind, the fire can easily spread to a larger area tomorrow and possibly threaten some other households where it is less accessible to put out". wrote Vujisić, last night, on social networks.

He suspects that the loggers, who were at that location yesterday, are responsible for the fire. SZS told Vijesti that the fire started in the part where the forest was exfoliated.

"Yesterday around 13 pm we were informed about the fire by one of the locals and we came very quickly. It is a forest fire in very inaccessible terrain, so it was impossible to localize it. It spread for about half a kilometer in several directions in locations where we are powerless to intervene," said SZS coordinator Nemanja Bulatović.
