The Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North, Damjan Ćulafić, was on a working visit to Ulcinj, where he visited key ecological sites - Solana Ulcinj, Valdanos and Ada Bojana, paying special attention to the challenges related to wastewater from Albania.
The Ministry announced that Ćulafić, in a meeting with the President of the Municipality of Ulcinj Genci Nimanbegu and his associates, expressed his openness to solving the problems and challenges the municipality faces, emphasizing the readiness of the department headed by him to provide support within its competences.
In relation to the Ulcinj salt pan, Ćulafić pointed out that the question of solving the problem in the formation of an adequate management structure for that protected area in the coming period will be in the place of priority activities of the Ministry.
Given the high level of understanding of the importance of solving this issue on both sides, as stated, he expressed optimism towards achieving the long-awaited goal, which "will also contribute to solving the Port Milen problem".
Ćulafić, when it comes to wastewater on Ada Bojana, informed those present that the officials of the Environmental Protection Agency held a meeting with their colleagues from Albania two days ago in this regard.
"Today, we contacted the Environmental Protection Agency of Albania and the director of the Wastewater Treatment Plant on the spot. We were told that samples are taken every day and that the results showed that the water is within the permitted limits," said Ćulafić.
He also informed the interlocutors that a meeting with the Albanian minister will be organized at the beginning of next month on this issue, but also "on many other important issues".
During the meeting, the problem of waste water from houses and restaurants on Ada Bojana was also discussed, and as one of the solutions, the installation of a system for purifying that water was considered.
Valdanos, as a potentially protected natural asset, was the topic of the meeting, where further activities within that valuable area were considered, with the aim of its sustainable valorization while respecting environmental protection criteria.
"As part of this working visit, and in accordance with the topics of the meeting, Minister Ćulafić visited Solana Ulcinj, Valdanos and Ada Bojana with his hosts, thereby expressing his interest in solving existing problems and improving the condition of the long-recognized values of the space of the Municipality of Ulcinj", it is added. .
"On all issues, we will be partners in reaching an agreement, especially due to the expressed readiness of the municipality and its president, Mr. Nimanbegu. What I can promise is that we will make efforts to minimize environmental incidents, because I cannot guarantee that there won't be any," concluded Ćulafić.
