In Montenegro, it is necessary to strengthen institutional support and implement legal mechanisms more effectively, in order to ensure the full realization of the rights of LGBTI persons in accordance with European standards.
This was assessed at the meeting of Minister of Justice Bojan Božović with the presidents of non-governmental organizations LGBT Forum Progress, Bojana Jokić, and Social Center, Milica Špajak.
The LGBT forum progress announced that the goal of the meeting was to deepen the dialogue and cooperation between state institutions and the civil sector, especially in the context of the protection of the rights of LGBTI persons.
It is stated that important issues for the Montenegrin community were considered, including legislation related to LGBTI rights and opportunities for improving the application of existing laws.
"Participants discussed the challenges that the LGBTI community faces in Montenegro, especially in terms of legal protection and equal access to justice," the statement said.
At the meeting, as they said, it was pointed out that there is a need for further work on strengthening institutional support and more effective implementation of legal mechanisms, in order to ensure the full realization of the rights of LGBTI persons in accordance with European standards.
One of the key topics was the role of the Ministry of Justice in the implementation of national strategic documents related to the LGBTI community, as well as the development of new initiatives that will further improve the legal and social position of this population.
"The need for continuous work on strengthening the dialogue between state institutions and non-governmental organizations was emphasized, with the aim of creating a stable and inclusive framework for the advancement of human rights," the announcement states.
It is emphasized that the representatives of the LGBT Forum Progress and the Social Center especially praised the readiness of Božović for an open and constructive dialogue with the civil sector.
It is estimated that such an approach enables more direct influence on policies and legal changes concerning the LGBTI community and contributes to greater transparency and accountability in the work of state institutions.
"This openness to cooperation has a special significance for the LGBTI community, which often faces obstacles in accessing justice and insufficient support from the system," the announcement concludes.
