The non-governmental organization (NGO) Euromost announced today that after a new environmental incident, it was discovered which company discharged an unknown white liquid into the river Lim.
"With the joint cooperation of the NGO Euromost, the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Bijelo Polje, the Security Center in Bijelo Polje, the Directorate for Inspection Affairs and water inspector Omar Bašić, as well as the Center for Ecotoxicological Tests, it was discovered yesterday after the new discharge of a white liquid in the Lim River, from which company releases", the statement of Euromost points out.
Euromost added that the company is located in the Bjelopolje industrial zone, and they also submitted a video from yesterday's joint activities.
Euromost states that a white unknown liquid was released yesterday from 12:14 to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m., which, as they said, can be seen in the photo and video with the date and time of release (header photo).
They claim that after the release, they immediately informed the water inspector and the Bijelo Polje Security Center, who, they add, informed the prosecutor on duty, and the same gave an order to the economic crime officers to enter the company that was suspected of releasing the liquid.
Euromost said that economic crime officers in cooperation with water inspector Omar Bašić discovered after five years where the white liquid was being discharged, because as they said, the company denied for years that it was discharging it.
As they said from Euromost, this was the reason to interrogate two people at the Security Center.
"Immediately after learning about the ecological incident on Lim, the Center for Ecotoxicological Tests got involved, which yesterday sent its team from Podgorica to Bijelo Polje and took a sample at the company from the place of discharge, as well as in the river," the announcement reads.
Euromost also said that in 2019, a fish die-off occurred in September, that it was then suspected that an unknown liquid had been released from the same pipe, which, they said, caused the fish die-off, and that court proceedings are still ongoing.
"Currently, the water level of the Lim River is at its lowest level, and every day there is a risk that a fish kill will happen again in the area of the Bijelo Polje Municipality due to the high pollution of this river. For this reason, we call on all state institutions, inspections, organizations, fishermen and citizens to pay attention on this river and everyone acts together, as in this case, in order to protect this river and the fish stock," said Euromost.
They announced that they will continue to monitor the situation at this place, as well as at other locations near the river where they suspect that harmful substances are being discharged into the river, every day with their members and fishermen.
