Opening the Day Center for oncology patients is at the top of the Podgorica list's priorities, said Maja Gardašević, a nurse and a candidate for councilor from this list.
In a statement sent to the media, she pointed out that health workers witness a drastic increase in the number of patients with malignant diseases in Podgorica every day, and that almost all patients from all over Montenegro are being treated in the capital, except for residents of Podgorica.
"It is worrying that in Montenegro there is not a single day care center for oncology patients. Unfortunately, the official register of cancer patients has not been updated since 2013, and it does not exist for children at all. Procedures for exercising the right to care and assistance from others are too complicated and often very humiliating. The cytostatic drug is often lacking, especially in the past few months. As for the psychological support for the patients, it is almost non-existent. Unfortunately, oncology patients do not have enough the number of days for sick leave and temporary inability to work," said Gardašević.
She pointed out that if we take into account all these alarming data, it is clear that something must change urgently to help oncology patients.
"Because of all of the above, because of humanity and humanity, the Podgorica list puts the opening of a day center for oncology patients at the very top of its priorities. Thus, we will provide all oncology patients and their relatives with the opportunity to have a place where all those who are fighting cancer will receive adequate support ", said Gardašević.
She said that the center will offer training and education to family members of patients so that, together with the center's expert medical staff, they can provide quality palliative care to their loved ones; psychological support for both patients and their family members; space for people who come to Podgorica from other parts of Montenegro to receive therapy in the clinical center and a safe space for mutual support of the sick and the cured.
"It is the responsibility of all of us to provide all citizens with a dignified life, and the seriously ill patients with the necessary care and attention. Opening the Center for oncology patients is a matter of humanity and urgent need," concluded Gardašević.
