The Director of the Clinical Center of Montenegro (KCCG) Aleksandar Radović announced that the start of stem cell transplantation is expected by the end of the year in cooperation with the Belgrade Military Medical Academy (VMA).
He announced this at the opening of the First Congress of Hematologists of Montenegro with international participation, which opened yesterday in Budva.
"In medicine, setting standards is not only important, but necessary. Today's congress is proof of commitment to setting those standards. Hematology, as a branch of medicine that deals with life-important processes, is extremely important. We are all aware that blood is the only medicine that has no substitute, and the job of a hematologist is therefore even more important and demanding," explained Radović, as reported by KCCG.
The results achieved by the hematologists of that institution, he says, deserve deep respect, and new professional challenges are ahead of them.
"With great effort and overcoming both expected and unexpected challenges, I am pleased to announce that the Clinical Center of Montenegro, in cooperation with the Military Medical Academy from Belgrade, will perform the first stem cell transplant by the end of 2024. This is an extremely important step for our patients, especially for those suffering from serious hematological diseases", announced the director of KCCG.
As announced, the construction and equipping of the sterile room is coming to an end, and the procurement of the necessary medicines, which were not on the approved list until now, is in the final stage. Also, the Institute for Blood Transfusion "made great efforts" in obtaining the equipment needed for delicate procedures such as bone marrow transplants.
"Transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells is, unfortunately, often the only way to cure many hematological diseases, congenital diseases of the immune system, metabolic disorders...", the Clinical Center points out.
"Our commitment indicates a strong desire to provide patients with the most up-to-date care and to follow world standards in treatment," said Radović. "As on several previous occasions, I repeat now that the development of medicine must not depend on one person, but rest on the team and on the reference health institution", concluded the director of KCCG.
