The capital city of Podgorica, in cooperation with Biciklo.me, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Montenegro and the European House, is celebrating the European Mobility Week this year with numerous events from September 16 to 22, with the aim of encouraging citizens to contribute through various activities to finding optimal solutions for challenges of urban mobility, it was announced from the Capital City.
As it was said, this year the European Mobility Week is called "Shared Public Space" and represents the leading campaign of the European Commission to raise awareness of sustainable mobility, and in Podgorica it started today on the fence in front of the monument to Saint Peter Cetinje, with the organization of safe and ecological driving on the simulator.
The mayor of Podgorica, Olivera Injac, pointed out that European Mobility Week has an important place in the city administration's calendar of activities this year as well.
"You know that we launched numerous actions last year and this year, encouraging citizens to use public transport more, to use cars less, we continuously subsidize the purchase of bicycles and encourage similar activities, through the work of TO Podgorica, the Secretariat for Sports and numerous other services in the system of the capital city so that citizens use alternative means of transport more and less. This is a very important topic because you know that there are numerous problems related to the traffic culture in the capital city. Our goal is to continue to we are working on a concept that can be much more sustainable for Podgorica and Montenegro," she pointed out.
The Minister of Transport, Maja Vukićević, said that the fact that this year the European Mobility Week is being celebrated under the theme Shared Public Space speaks volumes that we need to make public areas in our cities as good and efficient as possible.
"For Montenegro, as an ecological country, it is extremely important to have such actions. The traffic situation, as far as safety is concerned, is not at a highly satisfactory level, and certainly such actions will help to improve the situation," said Vukićević.
Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Radoje Vujadinović, said that the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is always at the disposal of both state bodies and local self-governments, especially the Capital City, to help solve some of the traffic issues with the support of the scientific community. He added that Podgorica is facing numerous challenges, but that the increasing use and investment in public transport is encouraging.
Vujadinović also said that as part of the European Mobility Week, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will implement several activities that are mainly aimed at raising the level of traffic safety.
Today, a media conference was held where the program of activities that will mark this year's European Mobility Week in Podgorica was presented.
It was announced that in order to popularize city transport, the Secretariat for Transport organized a bus ride today for the third-grade students of Elementary School "Milorad Musa Burzan", while tomorrow, September 17, there will be a screening of a film about traffic safety for children at the "Radosav Ljumović" National Library. In addition, the Secretariat for Transport is organizing an exhibition of art works by third-grade students of "Milorad Musa Burzan" Elementary School on Thursday, September 19, at the European House.
On Wednesday, September 18, a lecture on traffic safety "Safety of young road users: Interactive lecture on the problems of young people getting injured in traffic" will be held in the building of the Technical Faculties. In the organization of Biciklo.me today at 18.30:17 p.m. from Independence Square, a ride for the youngest, X Kidical Mass, will start, while tomorrow, September 20, in the building of the Assembly of the Capital City, in the Multimedia Hall, the Mission project will be presented, which the Capital City implements in partnership with NGOs Biciklo.me, but also in some European cities, precisely on the topic of sustainable urban mobility. On Thursday, Biciklo.me will hold a workshop: "Sustainable urban mobility in Podgorica: challenges and opportunities" in cooperation with the Secretariat for Transport, while on Friday, September XNUMX, a debate will be organized "Sustainable urban mobility: open with candidates for councilors", with to the representatives of electoral lists for the upcoming local elections.
For the final event, on World Car Free Day, September 22, the 81st Critical Mass will be held. This time it is a ride for all ages, and it is supported by the Secretariat for Transport, the Secretariat for Local Self-Government and Cooperation with Civil Society, the Office for Youth and the European House, according to the announcement of the Capital City.
