A delegation of the Municipal Assembly (SO) Nikšić, led by President Nemanja Vuković, with councilors' clubs, the Army of Montenegro, SOBNOR and the Nikšić Committee of the Yugoslav Communist Party of Montenegro (JKPCG), in anticipation of the Liberation Day of Nikšić, on September 18, laid a wreath on monument to the fallen fighters on Kapina polje.
"By preserving and nurturing the culture of memory of the great sacrifice and immortal exploits of our ancestors, we create the basis for all our future great victories. Numerous examples of bravery and heroism, glorious battles and battles, defeats and great victories forged the steely, indomitable character of our people. Love towards freedom and family, self-sacrifice and extraordinary courage, they managed to overcome many conquerors, including the greatest evil in the history of mankind - Nazism," Vuković said.
As he pointed out, out of gratitude to the "winners who broke the barbaric chains and dark ideologies in the war, we are obliged to break the chains of irresponsibility and negligence that slowed down the development of Nikšić and Montenegro for decades in peace".
He congratulated the citizens of Nikšić on September 18 and wished that "we continue to grow together, to develop Nikšić and to make it a better place to live for everyone".
The president of SOBNOR, Radojica Radojević, pointed out that Nikšić is a city of bright traditions from the past.
"We met here to express our due respect to all those who believed in their deeds, who did not regret their lives when it came to the homeland and its freedom. That is why today we should be proud of all of them and of our ancestors who are sacrificed to ensure freedom and peace for future generations. Glory be to the heroes and knights of this region, and to the respected families and relatives that they had them, it remains so a permanent obligation to learn from their examples and keep their deeds from being forgotten. The honorable and chivalrous people of Nikšić have always been an example to others throughout their history, especially on September 18, 1944," said Radojević.
Under the mound on Kapina polje lie 25 soldiers from all over Montenegro, who were shot on June 25, 1943.
The monument on Kapina polje is the work of architect Slobodan Vukajlović, whose five pillars united in the torch of freedom represent the five pillars to which groups of five inmates were tied when they were shot. The monument was erected in 1963 and unveiled eight years later.
