In half a year, Pljevlja was left without 172 inhabitants, according to data on the number of births, deaths, emigration and migration of inhabitants. Only due to the difference in the number of births and deaths, the municipality of Pljevlja was left without 125 inhabitants, and in relation to the number of emigrants and immigrants, it was without 47.
In half a year, 78 babies were born in that city, and 203 residents of that city died. 70 residents left, and 23 moved in. Last year, 155 babies were born in Pljevlja, 24 less than the year before, when 179 children were born in the Pljevlja maternity hospital. Last year too, a negative natural increase of -259 was registered, i.e. by that much the number of deaths was higher than the number of births.
In 2022, the natural increase in Pljevlja was - 278.
In terms of negative natural growth, Pljevlja is by far the first in Montenegro. The number of newborns in Pljevlja is drastically decreasing from year to year. Compared to the beginning of the seventies of the last century, the number of newborns decreased by six to seven times. At that time, 1.300 to 1.500 babies were born in the municipality of Pljevlja, and between 800 and 900 in the mid-seventies and eighties.
Monstat recently announced that 24.542 inhabitants live in Pljevlja, 6.244 less than in the 2011 census. In 1971, Pljevlja had 46.856 inhabitants, and a decade later 3.527 less. The trend of population decline continued, so according to the 1991 census there were 39.593 inhabitants, and in 2003 - 36.918...
About 160 children were enrolled in the first grade in three primary schools in Pljevlja this year, and only 12 in 11 village primary schools.
The municipality of Pljevlja, according to the local administration, is taking a series of measures to reduce the emigration of residents and increase the birth rate.
One of the measures that began to be applied at the end of last year is the payment of an additional child allowance in the amount of 30 euros for all children from Pljevlja, and 50 euros for children whose parents are beneficiaries of material family security and disability benefits.
The municipality has provided co-financing for the costs of medically assisted fertilization, for which 30.000 euros have been allocated this year.
In order to keep young families in Pljevlje, the Municipality has started to subsidize the interest on housing loans for young married couples who have not resolved their housing issue.
The municipality finances a maximum of 100 euros of interest per month, for a period of up to 10 years. In order to keep young people in the countryside, the local administration in Pljevlja will allocate part of the money from the budget to help them realize certain investments on their farms.
In half a year, 40 marriages were concluded in Pljevlja, and 13 were divorced. Last year, 127 marriages were concluded in the northernmost Montenegrin city, and 24 were divorced.
In July 2024, 6.896 employed citizens were registered in Pljevlja, which is slightly more than the previous month.
The average net salary in July in Pljevlja was 878 euros and is one of the highest in the country.
