In the next four-year mandate, the European Union will build a new modern home for the elderly in Podgorica, with all the necessary facilities for quality life and care, including medical support, recreational activities and social programs. Our goal is to provide greater accessibility and better quality of healthcare and social protection through numerous projects, said Sead Čirgić, a candidate for councilor on the "European Union - Boris Mugoša (SDP, SD, LP and citizens) - Podgorica for example" list.
As he assessed, the issue of health and social protection is an issue of social security and concerns every family in our city, which is why they approached the development of the program for the most vulnerable categories of our fellow citizens with special care.
"By building a home for the elderly, we will respond to the increasing needs for this type of accommodation for the elderly. The existing capacities are already full, and the waiting lists are long, which shows the urgency of this project, which is why this is high on the list of our priorities. The 'Active pensioners' program we want to improve the physical and mental health of pensioners and their connection. The program will provide pensioners with free or subsidized access to city sports centers and swimming pools, as well as organized recreational programs, such as yoga, pilates and nature walks Through cooperation with the Red Cross, other organizations and institutions, we will strengthen gerontological services, in order to make it easier for our oldest fellow citizens to function in the community," Čirgić pointed out.
He added that the plan is to introduce social pensions, which will provide adequate monthly allowances for people over 67 years of age who do not have a pension or any other source of income.
"Through this program, we will ensure that none of our oldest fellow citizens is left to social exclusion or poverty. The 'Free kindergarten' program for children from families at risk will enable children from socially vulnerable families to attend kindergarten without financial burden, providing them with a safe and stimulating environment for early development. In this way, we will provide equal access to quality preschool education for all children," Čirgić promised.
According to him, the capital city will launch the "Babysitting" service, providing parents with a safe and familiar solution for occasional and continuous child care.
"Through this service, parents will have access to professional and qualified babysitters, which will allow them a flexible and affordable service that meets the needs of modern families. The city will provide all the necessary resources, including adequate spaces, equipped for childcare, as well as financial support for functioning of the service", announced Čirgić.
He also promised that, in order to enable all children talented in sports to have an equal chance of success, regardless of their social circumstances, the city authorities will establish a support program for socially disadvantaged families with sports children, which will include subsidies for membership in sports clubs and the purchase of sports equipment.
"The program will also enable free or subsidized participation in sports camps and cover the costs of traveling to competitions. Children who show exceptional results will also receive scholarships," added the member of the European Union.
Čirgić also pointed out that Podgorica will be one of the few cities in the region that will implement a program of free snacks for children from vulnerable families.
"This initiative reduces the pressure on families, contributes to the stabilization of households and the prevention of social exclusion. The establishment of a detox center and a center for the support of minors affected by diseases will directly affect the reduction of the number of people who use psychoactive substances. The public institution 'Kakaritcka gora' will become an example institution, completely dedicated to its patients and their rehabilitation, with the highest level of expertise and care. Our goal is for 'Kakaricka gora' to become a symbol of excellence in health care and rehabilitation where every patient will have support and conditions for successful recovery.
In cooperation with health institutions, we will establish a center for psychological counseling, which will be financed by the capital. We will work to raise awareness of the importance of preserving mental health as an important factor for a stable and peaceful life for all community members. Provision of preventive and informative programs and continuous medical campaigns with a special emphasis on potential victims of violence living in the suburbs and rural areas of Podgorica," said Čirgić.
He added that the plan is to increase the number of specialized services for helping, supporting and protecting victims, opening easily accessible crisis centers for cases of violence and centers for victims of sexual violence.
"Introduction of programs for preventive interventions and programs for work with perpetrators of violence. We also plan to intensify cooperation with the Red Cross, relevant state institutions, international organizations and local associations that deal with issues of the RE population.
We will focus on areas such as education, health care, social inclusion and housing, while simultaneously raising awareness and reducing discrimination. We will strengthen the service of personal assistants for independent living, which will be intended for people with disabilities, in order to enable them a greater degree of independence and quality of life," concluded Čirgić.
