The Port State Control inspection of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs started today an extraordinary inspection of two foreign cargo ships that had an incident, or a minor collision, at the port of Bar Harbor last night.
Namely, as announced by the Administration of Maritime Safety and Port Management (UPSUL) last night at 21.08:XNUMX p.m., at the Bar anchorage, there was contact between two freighters: the general cargo ship "Mangar" sailing under the flag of Gibraltar and the container ship "Contship Vow". flying the flag of Liberia. As they stated, due to the strong north wind, the anchor of one of the ships was most likely plowed, which then led to the contact.
"In this incident, no human lives were endangered and no pollution of the sea was reported, but there was a loss of a lifeboat from one of the ships. The Maritime Operations Center, which is part of the UPSUL, informed the Port Authority of Bar, PSC in accordance with procedures inspection, as well as the National Investigator for Maritime Accidents, who will, in accordance with their responsibilities, perform an inspection on the ships that took part in the incident tonight," UPSUL announced.
According to the unofficial information of "Vijesti", "Magnar", which was anchored a few hundred meters north of "Contship Vow", was carried by the strong blows of the gale blowing at a speed of up to 45 knots, drifted south without control and hit the stern of the anchored Liberian container ship. . On that occasion, minor damage was caused to the ships, as soon as it was in contact, "Magnar" suffered worse because, from the impact, its lifeboat, which was carried by the storm, fell into the sea from the Kreme ship and drifted somewhere. Because of the lost rescue boat that is floating uncontrolled in the sea somewhere in the southern Adriatic, UPSUL broadcast a warning message (Securite) to all ships passing through this part of the water area today via the coastal radio station Barradio.
The general cargo ship "Magnar" of 3.173 gross tons has been in Bar for almost two months, waiting to be loaded with a special type of cargo. According to unofficial information, when the anchor started to plow and the 98-meter-long ship was carried by the storm to change the position where it was anchored, its crew did not react adequately and put the briod engine into operation in time to avoid a collision with a nearby Liberian container ship, which was just had arrived at the anchorage of the port of Bar.
"Contship Vow" of 9.940 gross tons arrived in Bar driving a regular feeder service from one of the largest container hubs in the Mediterranean - the Italian port of Đoja Tauro, and today the ship entered the port of Volujica and started unloading containers intended for local recipients. At the same time, the PSC inspection began an extraordinary inspection of that 148-meter-long ship and, in cooperation with the registry whose class is "Contship Vow", will determine the damage it suffered, that is, the ability of the vessel to continue sailing. The same will be done with the "Magnar", which, however, due to the loss of a key part of the rescue equipment - the boat for the evacuation of the crew, is threatened with a ban on navigation until these defects are eliminated.
By the way, both of these ships belong to companies from Germany. The National Commission for the Investigation of Accidents and Serious Accidents in Aviation, Maritime Affairs and Railways of Montenegro (KINNS) confirmed to "Vijesti" that their maritime accident investigator Aleksandar Božović will come to Bar on Tuesday and begin the investigation of the incident of two cargo ships at the anchorage of the port there.
