The houses of the locals were threatened today due to a major fire that broke out in Rogami near Podgorica.

Firefighters managed to bring the fire under control during the day.

The commander of the Protection Service, Andrija Čađenović, said that it was a larger fire that changed direction during the day due to a change in the wind direction and spread from Roga to Pričelje, where the houses of the residents of that village were in danger.

"There are two fire trucks with firefighters on the ground, and help was provided by the Directorate for Emergency Situations, two planes extinguished the fire," said Čađenović.

However, he added that the increased activity of the aircraft caused a problem due to reduced visibility, as well as the nearby transmission line.

Firefighters of the Protection Service still had their hands full today on the territory of Podgorica and city municipalities. They are putting out fire at about 20 locations, and their work is hampered by the north-easterly wind.

According to Čađenović, by 15 p.m. small fires were localized in Ulica 8. marta, Zabjelo, Smokovac. On two occasions, fires were extinguished in Beri and Zelenica, and there were also fires in Golubovci, near the Nikolj church, in Mahala, as well as in GO Tuza, in Sukuruć, Vranje.

Since the beginning of July, over 400 fires have been recorded, and due to the weather conditions, July could become one of the record number of fires.

According to Čađenović, the human factor is the cause of fires in the territory of Podgorica in 95 percent of cases.
