The Vice President of the Government of Montenegro and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, laying a wreath to honor the victims of the Morinj camp, pointed out that our country does not turn its head away from it or turn a blind eye to the past.
"These are the victims of destructive policies from the early 90s. Policies that collapsed the system of values in one period in Montenegro. Those values that Montenegro was proud of. On the other hand, my presence as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs is proof that "Montenegro does not turn its head, it does not turn a blind eye to the past, and that it is ready to face the past, however painful and courageous the process may be," Ibrahimović stated, RTCG writes.
He said that Montenegro will do everything in the coming period to improve good relations with our friendly country Croatia.
"I repeat, today the representatives of Croatia are also here and I believe that we are sending a strong message that we are ready as two friendly countries to improve our relations, to look to the future and the way that Croatia was our partner through our NATO integrations, now it is our ally in NATO, but also a partner on our European path, and I believe that very soon together we will be two friendly countries in the European Union," Ibrahimović pointed out.
After the laying of the wreath, the State Secretary for Political Affairs of the Government of Croatia, Frano Matušić, spoke and pointed out that they paid tribute to the victims who died and suffered in the camp in 1991.
"Unfortunately, some of them were killed here. And many of them are disabled people, because of the inhumane treatment they received here in the camp, from beatings and beyond. So what is important is that it was a great sacrifice that has been paid," said Matušić.
He says that the public should be reminded that over 350 Croatian detainees were in Morinje.
"What is extremely important is that, unfortunately, we have to remember the context. The context is that the so-called Yugoslav People's Army began its attack on Dubrovnik in 1991, just yesterday, October 1, with the help, unfortunately, of Montenegrin reservists, so Montenegro and Serbian volunteers from Trebinje in the service of the Great Serbian aggression and conquest, which continued in BiH, and then finally in Kosovo. So, that context was very clear in this sense, we have recognized and distinguish certain things. What is important is that Montenegro is our partner today," said Matušić.
He stated that we are a member of the NATO alliance, a candidate country for membership in the European Union, and that they are trying to help us and that they have a lot of projects with Montenegro.
"Croatia's interest is for all the countries of the Western Balkans to be part of the European family, part of the European Union. So that is our interest," Matušić said.
