If the situation with turbidity at the Mareza water source continues to the extent that it cannot be used even after it is boiled, the Podgorica company "Vodovod i Kanalizacija" will provide cisterns with drinking water at several locations in the city, the director of that company told "Vijesta" Aleksandar Nišavić.
Podgorica Vodovod informed consumers yesterday that the latest water analyzes showed a significant increase in turbidity at the source of Mareza, after heavy rainfall. They also warned that the water should not be used for drinking even after boiling.
"Waterworks and sewerage, in cooperation with the city company "Čistoća", which owns the cistern, will provide drinking water for users at several locations in the city, which are defined according to the company's assessment," Nišavić said.
Locations near the "Sergije Stanić" Vocational High School, the "Big Fashion" shopping center and the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro are being considered.
As Vodovod recently told "Vijesta", the Mareza water source is located on a specific terrain, which is why it becomes cloudy.
The solution would be to build a water purification plant, but, as Nišavić explained, that is not the best solution.
According to him, there are only a small number of days a year when water sources become cloudy, which is why "built-up construction is not the optimal solution".
Nišavić specified that the pumping station "Mareza" is cloudy approximately 10 days a year, and that the plant would have to work throughout the year.
"This, from the technical side, does not represent an optimal solution", he stressed.
He then promised to help households during such days.
"As we have stated, it is an average of up to 10 days during the year, which, you will agree, is not too long a period. In addition, mostly only the turbidity parameter is concerned, while the other microbiological parameters are within the permitted limits, so it is possible to use tap water in addition to boiling it in this period as well. Nevertheless, we will try our best to find a solution even in these days, by providing drinking water tanks at specific locations or in some other available way at a given moment", he stressed.
