The Directorate for Statistics (Monstat) announced today that the last two activities, which were a prerequisite for the publication of the final results of the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings, were successfully implemented.
The press release states that these activities are: Control of data on ethnic-cultural characteristics collected by the census of the population, households and apartments by citizens using special software and Control of the entered data by the political parties, signatories to the Agreement on the conditions for holding the census of the population, households and apartments from 20 November 11.
"Citizens had the right and the opportunity to check their data on ethnic-cultural characteristics collected by the census of the population, households and apartments through special software from October 1 to 7. The data check was successfully performed by 20.684 citizens, of which 14,6 thousand citizens checked their data via mobile phone, slightly more than six thousand via computer, while 253 citizens checked their data via tablet. All this indicates a high level of trust of citizens in the census process, and ultimately implies a high quality of the final results of the census," the announcement states. Monstat.
From that institution, they added that during the verification of data by citizens, not a single irregularity was reported in terms of the unreliability of the essence of the data in the database of the entered census data.
"For the entire period of data verification, around 850 calls from citizens were recorded via telephone lines provided by the Directorate of Statistics, i.e. 277 requests received via email: provjerapodataka@monstat.org. The largest number of requests related to additional clarification for citizens on how to access check data through the software, to correct typographical errors, then in case of incorrect entry of identification data from a copy of the census in the software application, as well as the possibility of checking data in the event that citizens lost the census. In total, there were 20 requests for spelling correction, three requests to change the Latin to the Cyrillic alphabet, while 11 citizens visited the premises of the Directorate of Statistics to directly check their data due to the loss of a unique nine-digit number (sticker)," the announcement reads.
Monstat said that for reasons of objective impossibility, the employees of the Directorate of Statistics met in terms of logistical support, by visiting three households (nine persons) whose statistical ID numbers were replaced.
"All corrections in the given households were recorded in the minutes. When it comes to the second prerequisite, the Directorate for Statistics successfully organized and implemented the control of entered data and the control of manual counting of data by political parties, signatories of the Agreement. The control was carried out with strict observance of the two most important principles of work of official statistics: professional independence and protection of individual data in accordance with the Law on Official Statistics and the System of Official Statistics, the Law on the Protection of Personal Data, as well as the internal instructions of the Directorate of Statistics," Monstat said.
They stated that "in relation to the findings and the control procedure, not a single irregularity was recorded, which was also noted in the prepared minutes that will be submitted tomorrow to the Committee for Monitoring the Implementation of the Agreement on the Conditions for Maintaining the Census of Population, Households and Apartments, as well as monitoring the implementation of the census, together with a report on census activities in the previous period".
"Therefore, the two last preconditions for the publication of the final results of the census on October 15, as announced by the Directorate of Statistics, have been fulfilled. The public will be informed in a timely manner about all the details of the upcoming press conference of the Directorate of Statistics on the occasion of the publication of the final results," the announcement concludes.
