On the occasion of October 10 - World Mental Health Day, the Capital City Health Center announced that it is crucial to work on the prevention of mental disorders through timely promotion of mental health and education.
World Mental Health Day aims to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilize support for mental health.
"In recent years, the role of mental health in achieving global development goals has been increasingly recognized, which emphasizes the need for its inclusion in the goals of sustainable development," announced the head of the Center for Mental Health, Dr. Ljubinko Kaluđerović, and graduate social worker Milena Lazović.
They indicate that depression is one of the leading causes of disability, and that anxiety can significantly reduce productivity in the workplace. "The suicide rate is also increasing, and a mentally healthy person has the capacity to make the right decisions, actively work to achieve their goals and build healthy relationships with others, as well as to face the challenges of life," they add.
They also state that economic and social factors continue to have a significant impact on physical and mental health. "In the current era, marked by economic uncertainty, war conflicts and pandemics, the incidence of mental disorders, especially depression and anxiety, is increasing. Also, the number of young people using psychotropic substances is increasing."
They said that the Capital City Health Center recognizes the importance of mental health and is actively working on its promotion and support for citizens.
"Through various programs, educational workshops and campaigns, they strive to raise awareness of mental health, provide support for people with mental disorders and reduce the stigma associated with this topic. In order to adequately respond to the challenges that individuals, and thus society, face, it is crucial is to work on the prevention of mental disorders through timely promotion of mental health and education," they point out.
Kaluđerović and Lazović emphasize that the joint efforts of the community, the development of empathy, trust and supportive relationships between people can create conditions for a happier and (mentally) healthier society
"Mental health promotion is an important part of overall health promotion and includes activities that ensure a supportive environment for healthy lifestyles, as well as physical and mental health. This promotion also includes educational activities aimed at all ages, starting with the youngest, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance on mental health and its impact on the development of society. On this day, it is important to emphasize that the joint efforts of the community, the development of empathy, trust and supportive relationships between people can create conditions for a happier and (mentally) healthier society. Through understanding and support, we can improve mentally the health of all members of the community," the announcement concludes.
