The KOD organization announced today that the results of soil analysis from two locations in Nikšić (Straševina and Gračanica) as a result of the disposal of grit have arrived and that the values of heavy metals in the soil in those places are many times higher than the permitted values.
"This proves that the locals from Nikšić who provided us with the sample were right and that the authorities hid the truth and put people's health at risk. The analyzes show that it is a dangerous material - lead and chromium, which endanger people's health and life the environment", the announcement of the KOD Organization points out.
They added that in one sample, and according to the analysis of the Institute for Public Health, the concentration of chromium is 14862 mg/kg, while the maximum allowed concentration is 50 mg/kg.
"In the same sample, the concentration of lead is 152.07 mg/kg, while the maximum allowed concentration is 50 mg/kg. The second sample, which we also submitted for analysis to the Institute of Public Health of Montenegro on behalf of the residents, shows similar values. The concentration of chromium is 14083 mg/kg, while the concentration of lead is 230.5 mg/kg. The concentration of chromium exceeds the maximum permissible concentration by as much as 280 times, while the value of lead is 4,6 times higher than the permissible value," the statement of the KOD Organization reads.
They said that they demand "from the competent authorities to determine responsibility in this case where the competent institutions have declared this type of impact of material disposal as harmless and claimed that those who warn of the danger in this case are unfoundedly disturbing the public".
"The KOD organization will continue to investigate this case and try to find other parameters and analyze the danger that this situation can cause to human health and the environment, in order to prevent further harmful consequences," the statement concludes.
