With the construction of the hospital and the announced roads, the wheel of Pljevlja's history will turn in the other direction, and life in that city will be much simpler.
These are the words of the director of the General Hospital in Pljevlja Saša Grbović commented on the announced start of the construction of a new hospital in the northernmost Montenegrin city, for which he advocated since the beginning of his mandate.
The contract on the development of the project on the execution of works for the construction of the hospital, based on the "design and build" principle, was recently signed by the director of the Capital Investments Administration. Esmin Bećović i Dejan Burčul, representative of the Consortium who will participate in the implementation of the project as contractors. The signing of the contract was also attended by the prime minister Milojko Spajic and the Minister of Health Vojislav Šimun.
It is planned that the new hospital will have a gross area of 26.540 square meters, with 16 functional units and a capacity of 140 hospital beds, along with modern operating rooms, intensive care and specialized clinics. According to the contract, the construction will cost around 39 million euros, and it is planned that the development of the main project will take six months, and the construction will take three years from the introduction of the contractor to the work. Construction work is expected to begin in the third quarter of next year.
Grbović pointed out to "Vijesti" that Pljevlja needs a new functional hospital, unlike the old one, which is of the pavilion type.
He said that funds have already been determined for the entire project, and that it took two and a half years to prepare the documentation.
"We were limited to two floors due to the planning documents that did not allow the construction of higher floors. I think a multi-story building would be much more functional for us, but it was impossible to change that even though I tried to go into that part of the story," said Grbović.

The underground parking lot will have a total of about 300 spaces.
Before the start of construction, it will be necessary to demolish the former military station and the premises where the Emergency Situations Service is now located.
Grbović says that part of the equipment from the current hospital will be transferred to the new one, and a new one will also be purchased.
"We are making the specification of equipment for the new hospital and in the next few days we will finish that work and give feedback to the Ministry of Health so that they can prepare tenders for that equipment as well," Grbović said.
Parts of the current hospital can be used for geriatrics and some kind of care for patients in an advanced stage of cancer, where the care of doctors is not so much needed, as of middle medical staff, Grbović said.
"I presented this idea to the previous and current Minister of Health, and he agreed, so that in parallel with the construction of the hospital, we could start the process of designing the conversion of this space. The department of internal medicine where we managed to develop central oxygen in compliance should be preserved because we saw what the situation with covid was and how much of a surprise it was for the whole world. You should not give up those resources that mean life in such situations".
Grbović says that he hopes that the start of construction of the hospital will give a positive result in terms of motivating people to stay in Pljevlja.
"In order to attract medical staff to Pljevlja, my idea is to offer people apartments that would become permanent ownership after ten years. When someone ties ten years of his life to one city, it will be difficult for him to leave after that. The local community, large companies in Pljevlja should be involved."
Grbović assessed that the current situation in the hospital is much more favorable when it comes to doctors: "Currently, 42 doctors are employed. Of that number, there are three subspecialist doctors, 32 part-time specialist doctors, three part-time specialist doctors and four doctors on specialization. The hospital needs a total of 52 doctors who are specialists, seven doctors of medicine and one doctor of pharmacy, so currently the hospital needs 10 specialist doctors, seven doctors of medicine and one doctor of pharmacy. In the previous three years, a lot of doctors have returned from specialization, although we still have branches in which we have difficulty functioning. So we are forced to hire doctors from outside thanks to good communication with other hospitals. We have radiologists, otorhinolaryngologists on specialization, vascular surgeons and anesthesiologists on subspecialization. Unfortunately, no one applied for the previous two competitions for specializations. Gynecology never fuller. We have five gynecology specialists. Three young doctors and one doctor who came from Serbia," said Grbović, a specialist in gynecology.
All doctors, he points out, give their best, often due to the lack of doctors and at the expense of their family life.
"We will support every type of education of young colleagues, we will increase the breadth of services offered in Pljevlja. Last Sunday I had a meeting with a doctor from the Narodni Front Clinic in Belgrade who deals with gynecological laparoscopy. Given that we have formed a laparoscopic pillar, I think that very soon, in the coming month, we will have the first gynecological laparoscopic surgery in Pljevlja".
Grbović believes that health care should be directed in the direction that every hospital in Montenegro should have a narrower specialization, because in this way the burden on the Clinical Center would be relieved and we would get "somewhere a functional health care system".
He states that in 2021, when he took over the management of the hospital, he inherited 300 to 400 euros in debt, and that they are now paying off their obligations regularly and that significant money has been invested in acquiring new equipment and adapting the premises.
