As part of the World Cup of Friendship, which will be held from October 20 to 23 in Ulcinj, the participants planted an olive tree symbolically called the "Balkan tree of peace" on the green area next to the new staircase that connects Pristan and the former Galeb hotel.
The third World Cup in a row brought together numerous sports legends from all over the former Yugoslavia.
The initiator and main organizer, businessman, humanist and former basketball player and sports worker from Ulcinj, Pavle Pajo Pepđonović, invited athletes from all Balkan countries to plant a tree together with him.
He invited Mirsad Fazlagić, Stanislav Karasi, Ivo Daneu, Koč Dimitrovski, Ivan Gudelj, Ljubomir Radanović, Miodrag Perunović...
"We won't be the only ones to throw away a clod of earth. We will all do this because this is a big thing, a big act for history, for albums, for eternity. That's why I'm asking everyone for a little patience so that everyone passes by the tree to throw a clod of earth and keep it in our memory," said Pepđonović.
Poet and humanist from Bar Rajko Joličić, publicist and journalist from Ulcinj Mustafa Canka and professor Ismet Karamanaga also spoke at the ceremony.
The World Cup, which ends today, is held under the motto "All we need is love".
After the ceremony on a narrow plateau with a park, which was too small to accommodate all the visitors, the participants of the Mundial headed to the "Palat Venezia" hotel in the Old Town, where traditional dishes and drinks from Ulcinj will be served.
Old town resident Ismet Karamanaga later toured the museum complex with the athletes and told them part of the history related to the ancient city, which has existed for 2,5 millennia and is one of the oldest cities on the Adriatic.
