Bogdan Laušević, a long-time epidemiologist and one of the most respected doctors in Pljevlja, died tonight in Pljevlja at the age of 90.
Laušević was born in 1935 in Tepački Polje, Žabljak. He finished elementary school, high school, and then the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. He completed his specialization in epidemiology at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade in 1972, and defended his doctoral dissertation at the same faculty in 1983. The title of primarius was conferred on him in 1986. He was elected a member of the Medical Research Committee of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts (CANU) in 1991, and a year later, at the Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica, he was elected to the position of senior scientific associate.
From 1965 to 1991, he was employed at the Pljevlja Medical Center. He started his career as a general practitioner, then worked as an epidemiologist and founder of the hygiene-epidemiological service, and from 1984 he was the director of the Pljevlja Medical Center. In his long-term career, he made a significant contribution in terms of organization and expertise in providing health care in this institution. His contribution in preventive and scientific-research work is particularly noteworthy.
He was a regular participant in numerous scientific meetings and research projects in the field of preventive medicine, primarily in the field of infectious and parasitic diseases. In addition to work in his profession, he distinguished himself by his advocacy in the field of ecology and environmental protection, where he continuously pointed out the causes and possible consequences of environmental problems in the area of Pljevlja in the language of his profession. His research work on the historical development of the health service in Pljevlja represents a significant contribution to the overall knowledge of the history and development of our city. He was an active member of several professional associations in Montenegro and the former SFRY, and for his decades of work in the field of health care, he received several awards. He is the holder of the "Dr. Petar Miljanić" plaque for exceptional services to the development of the Association of Doctors of Montenegro.
He is the winner of the highest municipal award, the November 20 award.
