The day when doctor Tursumović was attacked is the most difficult day for the health system of Montenegro. I came here to send a clear message of support, but also out of a human obligation to my colleague, who has entrusted his city and the institution where he works, said Minister of Health Vojislav Šimun, after visiting doctor Ilhan Tursumović in Pljevlja hospital, who after the attack was successfully operated on by the patient and is recovering from his injuries, the Ministry of Health announced.
As stated in the announcement, the director of the Pljevlja Health Center Dr. Branka Stanković and the doctors who operated on Dr. Tursumović, Dr. Zoran Tabaš and Dr. Žarko Čolović, informed Šimun about the course of treatment and his current condition.
"And Dr. Tursumović thanked his colleagues and the minister for the visit and interest, but also the entire system for the coordination and quick reaction, which saved his life," the announcement reads.
It is added that the President of the Municipality of Pljevlja Dr. Dario Vraneš also attended the visit.
Šimun said that doctor Tursumović and his family will have the full support of the health department and other government departments.
"I must express my deep gratitude to fellow citizen Emir Loj, who defended the doctor from the attackers, as well as to the entire staff of the Pljeval hospital, led by doctors Tabaš and Čolović, whose extraordinary surgical skills saved our doctor's life," he pointed out.
Šimun said that the Ministry of Health had previously undertaken appropriate activities to raise citizens' awareness of the increasingly frequent attacks on health workers, but also concrete measures aimed at raising the level of safety of health workers at their workplaces.
"I believe that after this event, the other competent departments must provide much more concrete and intensive support in these activities, because, as I stated a few days ago, this unpleasant event represents the last alarm for the entire society. We simply have to come out of this situation more humane, more in solidarity and with a message that this kind of tragic event will never happen again," Šimun concluded.
