The Municipal Committee of the Movement Europe now Pljevlja asked the Government to grant a 40 percent discount to the citizens of Pljevlja on the total electricity bill during the heating season, which, they believe, would further reduce pollution in that city.
"The Municipal Committee of the Movement Europe, taking into account environmental protection, reducing pollution and improving the living standards of the citizens of Pljevlja, submitted a request for an electricity subsidy this year as well. Bearing in mind the fact that the citizens of Pljevlja, which is the center of the country's energy-mining system, are most exposed to pollution, we propose to grant a discount of 40 percent on the total electricity bill in the period from November 1, 2024 to April 15, 2025. We believe that this measure represents an additional incentive to reduce pollution and switch to energy-efficient heating systems. With this discount, they would improve the standard of living of citizens and additionally contribute to the successful implementation of the Energy Efficiency Program implemented by the Eco Fund", the announcement states.
PES also suggests that, in accordance with the possibilities and depending on the capacity of the electricity distribution network, an additional subsidy for the consumption of a lower (night) tariff should be considered. This short-term measure would last until the completion of the heating project in Pljevlja.
"We hope that the request for subsidies, which is primarily based on the general interest of all citizens of Pljevlja, will receive a positive response from the Government of Montenegro and the competent ministry, considering the fact that the Pljevlja Coal Mine and TPP system produces 40 percent of electricity in Montenegro", the announcement states.
