A case of the contagious skin disease scabies was recorded in the Investigation Prison in Spuz, but the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions (UIKS) claims that only one detainee fell ill and that he was isolated to prevent the spread of the infection.
"On October 16, 10, a detained person in the Podgorica Remand Prison was diagnosed with the infectious skin disease scabies. In order to prevent the spread of infection, this detainee was isolated from other detained persons and provided with all necessary therapy. According to the doctor's reports, the disease is being rehabilitated, and the detained person will soon be placed in a room with other detained persons", UIKS replied to the News.
They explain that for the purpose of prevention, another detained person who stayed in the room with the detainee who was diagnosed with the disease was also isolated.
"As there have been no symptoms of scabies in this person so far, the isolation measure will be lifted for this person as well. Also, the room where the sick detainee stayed was disinfected," said the Spuš prison.
They claim that in other organizational units of UIKS, where detained and convicted persons are housed, no cases of scabies (scabies) have been recorded.
"We consider it necessary to point out that the Administration for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions is provided with all the necessary drugs and medical devices used in the treatment of scabies, as well as constant supervision by doctors. Also, in order to prevent the occurrence of this disease, which is not rare in collective accommodation, the necessary measures are taken to maintain the hygiene of the premises where detained and convicted persons stay", writes the responses of the UIKS Public Relations Service.
