The Ministry of Culture and Media contributed to the rating in the European Commission's report on Montenegro's progress in Chapter 23 "Judiciary and Fundamental Rights" being one better, and Chapter 10 "Information Society and Media" raised the rating from three to even five, she pointed out. Minister Tamara Vujović.
She emphasized that Montenegro has made good progress in freedom of expression, which belongs to fundamental rights, which are part of Chapter 23.
"In that Chapter, one grade is stated higher, and the recommendations concerning freedom of expression were mostly fulfilled in the reporting period, which is a clear indication that we worked well and dedicatedly. The Report states that good progress was made in the observed period, especially with the adoption of a package of media laws - the new Media Act, the new Audiovisual Media Services Act and the new RTCG Public Service Act - in accordance with the acquis of the EU and European standards, which is was a key recommendation of last year's report," announced Vujović.
The chapter "Information society and media" in the Progress Report, as she said, raised its rating from three to even five, and such a jump was recorded only in the chapter "Intellectual property rights".
"These are the only chapters that have a five, which means that significant progress has been made in those areas. This is extremely important for all citizens in Montenegro, for the media sector, for negotiations with the European Union. A jump of two grades is a huge result and it happens very rarely".
She pointed out that the European path is the most important direction for Montenegro and that she is extremely proud that "the great effort of the Ministry of Culture and Media towards this goal has been recognised."
"Our European friends and partners know that in the coming period we will work continuously, even more in order to continue to record excellent results. The "Information Society and Media" chapter is a candidate for closure at the intergovernmental conference in December, and with the best grade we achieved, there are no obstacles to its closure then. We are seriously moving towards the most important goal and we are getting closer to it, which is membership in the European Union".
Vujović believes that the consistent application of the adopted set of media laws is the most important task of the Ministry of Culture and Media, in order to create a media space in which high reporting standards will be respected and in which credible and effective self-regulatory bodies, along with media literate and active citizens, will additionally contribute to integrity and professionalism media.
