Cooperation with UNICEF makes it possible to improve the availability of key medical products and necessities in Montenegro, which ensures better health care, said Minister of Health Vojislav Šimun.
The Ministry of Health announced that a delegation from that department visited the UNICEF Procurement and Logistics Center in Copenhagen.
As they stated, during the visit it was announced that the procurement and distribution of vaccines, medical devices and essential medical resources is a key step towards strengthening the health system of Montenegro and that the country will have the full support of UNICEF on this path.
The Ministry said that the visit was organized on the sidelines of the Regional Committee of the World Health Organization for Europe, which was held in Copenhagen.
"UNICEF representatives introduced Šimun to the innovative processes and technologies they use to improve health systems around the world," the statement said.
It is said that a tour of the largest humanitarian warehouse where UNICEF stores and distributes medical equipment and vaccines for more than 160 countries has been organized.
"The latest products for maternal and neonatal care, as well as assistive technologies that are of key importance for healthcare systems, were also presented," the statement added.
The UNICEF delegation, as the Ministry of Health said, was led by the Director of the Procurement Division, Leila Pakkala, while other high-ranking representatives from the logistics, technology and medical products sectors also participated in the talks.
Šimun thanked UNICEF for its previous support for projects in Montenegro and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation.
"Possibilities for further cooperation were discussed, especially in the areas of improving the "track and trace" system for better monitoring of the consumption of drugs and medical devices, support for immunization through the development of a call center for MMR vaccination, as well as the procurement of pre-prepared equipment packages for the early development of children, newborns and children with special needs", says the announcement.
It is stated that the possibility of training and capacity building in terms of forecasting needs and procurement planning was also discussed.
Šimun pointed out that the visit is significant for the further development of health services in Montenegro, especially in the area of efficient procurement and distribution of medical products.
"Our cooperation with UNICEF allows us to improve the availability of key medical products and supplies in Montenegro, thereby ensuring better health care, especially for children, who are the most vulnerable and for whom the availability of quality care is of key importance," said Šimun.
The Ministry stated that the Montenegrin delegation and representatives of UNICEF agreed on further cooperation through concrete activities that will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the health system of Montenegro.
