The Montenegrin flag, which was placed on the flagpole in front of the church in the village of Štitarica in Mojkovac, was stolen during the night. As locals told Vijesti, a 10-meter-high mast was also stolen. During the night, the state flag in front of the premises of the Local Government (MZ), which had been installed a long time ago, was taken away.
According to local resident Duško Baković, the Mojkovac police conducted an investigation this morning.
"We expect the perpetrators to be discovered as soon as possible. The installation of the flag was donated by 63 families from Štitarica. Among them are families living in Serbia and several cities in Montenegro. Previously, we had an agreement with our neighbors, everything went smoothly and no one, at least verbally, objected to placing the flag in front of the church. Despite this, yesterday, 50 policemen were sent to Štitarica, who secured the flag-raising event. I hope that the same number of police officers will be engaged in the detection of the perpetrators," Baković said.
In front of the church in that village in Mojkovac, a tricolor with four glasses was placed 20 days ago. Some residents of Štitarica claim that no flag has ever been placed in front of the church, which is about 128 years old.
SEP: Prosecute the vandals, we call on the locals to be reasonable and patient
The Party of European Progress appealed to find the perpetrators.
"We condemn the vandal act of desecrating the Montenegrin national flag in Štitarica and call on the state authorities to find and prosecute the perpetrators. In this case, this is not a difficult professional obligation. Extremists, encouraged by aggressive rhetoric and examples of disrespect for state symbols in the Montenegrin parliament, want to provoke and cause an escalation and conflicts. We call for common sense and patience from the residents of Štitarica. Respect for the state and its symbols is a civic, constitutional and political obligation, and the Party of European Progress will not back down from defending the dignity of the state and its symbols," said the party.
