The Ministry of Public Administration (MJU) announced that Dukaj today opened the fifth regional Cyber Security conference, entitled "International cooperation in the protection of critical infrastructure".
"It is my pleasure today at the conference to present the key steps taken by the Ministry of Public Administration and the Government of Montenegro in order to strengthen information security and protect state systems from cyber threats. After the cyber attack of August 2022, we chose the most difficult, but also the only correct one road, we started from the ground up to build a new strong cyber protection system," said Dukaj.
He added that when the Law on Information Security is adopted in the Parliament of Montenegro, it will be a big step forward compared to previous years, because in the field of cyber security, Montenegro will stand alongside the advanced countries of the European Union (EU) and as the first country in the Western Balkans. transposing the NIS2 Directive into national legislation.
"Implementation of such advanced but also demanding solutions will be a challenge, but at the same time an opportunity for the Ministry and the Government of Montenegro to prove that we deserve to be the next member of the EU," said Dukaj.
He said that the program of the Reform Agenda in the field of digitization and the green agenda foresees a special part for cyber security for the next three years, which will enable the full establishment of national capacities for cyber security and the fulfillment of measures from the law, with the financial support of the EU.
"The formation of GSOC was one of the key achievements of the past year. The center, which represents the main pillar of the security of information systems of the state administration, offers centralized support in the detection, prevention and response to cyber attacks. At the same time, this establishment enables Montenegro to fully respond to the challenges in the modern cyber space", said Dukaj and added that in the coming years, GSOC will continue to improve its capacities, both technical and human.
He said that raising awareness, cyber hygiene, education, specialized trainings, training of employees are some of the activities that are being worked on every day.
"By the end of this month, we will promote the digital tool for the Cyber Academy, which we are developing with the support of USAID. During December, we will have the official opening of the WB3C Center for Cyber Education, which we are implementing with France and Slovenia. Creating a safe cyber space is the task of all of us, and the priority of the Ministry of Public Administration which ensured that our citizens have confidence in institutions, that investors can invest their capital in Montenegro, and that our international partners get a state in Montenegro that is ready to meet the strict standards that cyber security requires," concluded Minister Dukaj.
The Ministry of Public Administration said that on the first day of the Fifth Regional Cyber Security Conference, the president of the NGO Secure, Ivona Dabetić, and the ambassadors and representatives of international organizations in Montenegro, the Italian ambassador to Montenegro, Andreina Marcela, and the French ambassador to Montenegro, Anne-Marie Maskaj, spoke. , Ambassador of Great Britain to Montenegro Don McCann and Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro, Ricardo Seri.
