Is there anyone in Montenegro today who can guarantee the safety and security of our children during their stay in educational institutions? Unfortunately, we have a situation where the same scenes are being repeated for several weeks in a row, the same headlines are being read, and our parents and teaching staff are experiencing the same stress and fear, says the statement of the Council of Parents of Dragan Kovačević Nikšić.
Even today, as stated, they urgently evacuated children from kindergartens and educational institutions, due to the possibility of a bomb attack, which caused justified concern.
Mirko Pavićević, representative of the Council of Parents in the Board of Directors of the "Dragan Kovačević" Nikšić Public Prosecutor's Office, asks whether and in what way the state can guarantee the safety of children in the future.
"These situations are not at all pleasant for parents or teaching staff. With great concern, we ask the authorities from the security sector, especially the MUP of Montenegro: Who and how will guarantee the safety of our children in the future? We ask them and demand that they give us a detailed explanation of what they have done so far regarding the discovery of criminals, who are behind these criminal acts, causing general danger and jeopardizing the safety of our children. If we cannot determine who is placing false bomb threats in educational institutions, how can we be sure that we have the capacity to deal with real threats that might arise? It is also worrying that the level of danger after receiving e-mails with information was rated as low. This information is not at all encouraging for parents, as well as for employees in our kindergartens, who face such challenges every day," said Pavićević.
Anđela Maksimović, the president of the Council of Parents of the Dragan Kovačević Public Prosecutor's Office, pointed out that not only do they have a problem with the safety of children, but also the fear that the children are not really safe.
"A small number of kindergartens have video surveillance, and every day we are faced with the destruction of inventory in the yards, without anyone being responsible for these damages. The latest evacuation of children, caused by fear of a possible bomb attack, is just the last straw. We wonder how to prevent bombings? Where are the police when they are needed? In our city, very few police officers are seen in front of kindergartens and schools, which causes additional concern among parents. In addition to security issues, we would also like to draw attention to the additional costs that arise after evacuations. Meals prepared for children, which later had to be destroyed, represent a serious financial loss. Workers are hired from six o'clock in the morning to prepare meals, and after evacuation, the food often ends up as waste. We ask the authorities who will bear the costs incurred in such situations? We invite the Ministry of Internal Affairs and all competent security institutions to answer who will guarantee the safety of children tomorrow," asked Maksimović.
