The Vice President of the Municipality of Budva, Jasna Dokić, laid a wreath on the memorial plaque on the walls of the Old Town and paid tribute to the liberators of Budva and those who fell for freedom in the First World War on the occasion of the liberation of the city of Budva on November 8, 1918.
"We gathered here today to pay tribute to those who gave their lives for our freedom. Back in 1918, many citizens of Budva gave their lives for liberation from the Austro-Hungarian occupation. A large number of citizens of Budva, Brajić, Pobor, Grblj, Main and Paštrović perished. that we would have freedom today. We must never forget them, this day must be celebrated and we are here to pay tribute to them. May they be eternally grateful," said Dokić.
Mladen Mikijelj, leader of the coalition "For the future of Budva - Budva must go forward", also attended the laying of the wreath.
The memorial plaque on the old city ramparts is dedicated to the "Serbian liberators of Budva".
On the board that was placed above the main gate to the Old Town in 1931, it is written: "In memory of the arrival of the brave victorious Serbian army, which after heroic victories liberated Budva, on Mitrovdan, November 8, 1918, was established by the Municipality of Budva".
Above that inscription are carved the words of Peter II Petrović Njegoš "Generations, deeds of judgment..."
The historical credibility of the words, carved just above the Venetian lion that has stood there for centuries, has divided the political and professional public in Budva for years.
