Doctors must have better legal protection in the workplace, but institutional mechanisms must also be strengthened through which patients will be able to submit and resolve their objections, it was assessed during the meeting of the Minister of Justice Bojan Božović with representatives of the Union of Medical Doctors, the Medical Chamber, the Ministry of Health and the Prosecutor's Office advice.
"Vijesti" was told by the Union of Medical Doctors (SDMCG) that the meeting was organized at the invitation of the Minister of Justice Bojan Božović, who listened to the proposals of the doctor's representatives with his colleagues.
"In addition to the increased legal protection of doctors, which is intended to be achieved through changes in the law, all those present agreed that it is necessary to strengthen institutional mechanisms through which patients will be able to submit and resolve their complaints. At the meeting, it was emphasized that after the committed incident, no one deals with the causes of the patients' dissatisfaction anymore, but we only deal with the consequences. Thus, the system loses valuable information where the organization of work can be improved according to the patient's remarks", stated the SDMCG.
They specified that they and the representatives of the Medical Chamber will draft a new proposal for the text of the criminal offense "Assault on a doctor while providing medical assistance", which will later be perfected in cooperation with representatives of the Ministry of Justice and, in the final, legal procedure, will be integrated into the Criminal Code.
"After the incident in Pljevlja, the Pljevlja Health Center faced the challenges of organizing the provision of continuous neuropsychiatric health care. This is precisely why we emphasize that the consequences of attacks on doctors when providing health services are far-reaching for the health system, they threaten the availability and timeliness of health services. This is precisely why it is important to develop as strong mechanisms for the protection of doctors as possible, but also strong mechanisms for the protection of the interests of patients who can effectively make complaints and solve problems related to receiving timely and adequate health care", said the president of the Union of Doctors of Medicine Milena Popović Samardžić.
