The President of the Assembly Andrija Mandić said, on the occasion of the national cultural holiday - Njegoš Day, that he is sure "that" we will "raise Njegoš's votive chapel again" in Lovćen.
"I am sure that, guided by his wisdom that permeates the ages, we will make another common brotherly step forward and rebuild Njegoš's votive chapel on Lovćen, so that it, along with the current cultural monument, will be a measure of reconciliation and healing of Montenegro," said Mandić.
He congratulated the citizens on the holiday, saying that it is a date of "extreme importance for all of us".
"Someone left an indelible mark in the soul and heart of our people, and that mark leads us to this day to build a modern, prosperous, reconciled and stable Montenegro, never to forget its rich and glorious history and what is actually its essence, and it is precisely Njegoš's creativity that represents the basis of our national culture, literacy and spirituality," Mandić wrote in the congratulatory message.
He says that by declaring the birthday of Petar II Petrović Njegoš a national holiday, a "great and shameful injustice" has been corrected, as well as "the discriminatory attitude of the former regime which, for narrowly political reasons, underestimated and marginalized our great ruler and literary giant".
"Njegoš, as a secular and spiritual ruler, as well as a literary creator, was the unifier of Montenegro with his thoughts and deeds, and precisely because of this, with our efforts to make Montenegro a bastion of peace and harmony, we are fulfilling the vision he bequeathed to us," said Mandić.
