Vijesti journalist Dragana Šćepanović received the third prize at the competition of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR) for the best journalistic stories entitled "Position and state of security of the LGBT community in Montenegro".
Šćepanović received the award for the story "LGBTIQ persons in small communities: Life on the seesaw of condemnation and fear".
The first prize was awarded to Anja Raonić and Dubravka Perović for the show/story "Steps towards acceptance: LGBT rights in Montenegro", which was published on Gradska TV.
The second prize went to Jovana Damjanović for the show/story "There is no gender change for married people", which was published on the BIRN portal.
YIHR stated on their Facebook page that they presented the awards today.
"According to the competition of the Youth Initiative for Human Rights for the best journalistic stories entitled "Position and state of security of the LGBT community in Montenegro", today we presented awards for the three best stories. The contest, which was open until November 20, 2024, received a large number of texts/attributes, with many high-quality and interesting stories," reads the YIHR announcement published on their watch.
The announcement states that the Commission had a difficult task to choose the best ones, namely:
1st prize: Anja Raonic and Dubravka Perović for the show/story "Steps towards acceptance: LGBT rights in Montenegro", which was published on City TV.
II prize: Jovana Damjanović for the show/story "There is no gender change for married people", which was published on BIRN-a portal.
III award: Dragana Šćepanović for the show/story "LGBTIQ persons in small communities: Life on the seesaw of conviction of the investigation", which was published on portal Vijesti.
YIHR thanked all the participants of the competition, especially because with their journalistic stories they contributed to improving the position of the LGBT community in Montenegro and raising awareness of their rights and inclusion in Montenegrin society.
"Congratulations to all award winners. The contest was realized as part of the project 'Human rights do not know sexual affiliation - discrimination has the same meaning for everyone', which we are implementing with the support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights", YIHR said.
