Members of the Montenegrin Parliament adopted today the Law on Information Security, the adoption of which is one of the preconditions for closing Chapter 10 - Information Society.

The law was adopted by the votes of 53 deputies, while one abstained.

On Monday, Minister of Public Administration Maraš Dukaj said in the Parliament that this law introduces European Union (EU) standards into the Montenegrin system and that Montenegro is the first country in the Western Balkans to apply EU directives in that area.

He said that the Law is comprehensive because it covers the entire field of information society, adding that its important aspect is cyber security, which is clearly defined by that legal act.

Dukaj emphasized that the Law was drafted under the auspices of the Embassy of Great Britain, that it was prepared in an inclusive manner and that this was confirmed by the relevant international partners.

"I regret that it was not adopted earlier, today we would have a serious advantage in relation to the needs of our cyber resistance, but also in the negotiation process", said Dukaj.
