In order to mark the international Campaign "16 days of activism against violence against women, the municipal Office for Gender Equality in cooperation with SOS phone for women and children victims of violence Bijelo Polje, held an intersectoral meeting.
The meeting was attended by the co-presidents of the Women's Committee Club, the secretary of the Assembly, the head of the Department for Human and Minority Rights, the director of the Center for Child and Family Support and several managers of the Service for Children, the Elderly, Adults and Youth from the Center for Social Work and representatives of the NGO "Association for Development civil society", "New Woman", "Municipal Association of Multiple Sclerosis" and "Strong Mom".
As announced by the Municipality, the results of work and programs so far were presented at the meeting with the aim of improving cooperation, promoting gender equality, as well as preventing violence against women through SOS services, amendments to legal regulations in relation to women victims of gender-based violence and economic empowerment of women.
"We believe that the '16 days of activism against violence against women' campaign is an opportunity to strengthen our cooperation and participate together in the implementation of activities during the campaign as well as in subsequent programs. The meeting initiated a proposal to address the Ministry of Justice to amend the criminal code for the introduction of femicide , as a separate criminal act.
"We believe that stricter legislation would have a positive impact on the reduction of femicide for several reasons. Also, it is planned to cooperate with relevant actors from other cities from the north in launching an initiative related to this issue," announced the Office for gender equality.
They also add that it has been agreed to participate in several seminars and workshops during the flight campaign.
