The Minister of Human and Minority Rights, Fatmir Đeka, attended the celebration of the Day of the Albanian National Flag, which is traditionally held every year on November 28, at the invitation of the Albanian-American Association of Ulcinj Diaspora "Ana Maljit" and other Ulcinj Associations.
As announced by the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights, Đeka is on a working visit to the United States of America (USA) at the invitation of the New York State Assembly.
It is stated that Đeka discussed further cooperation and work on preserving the identity of the Albanian national minority originating from Montenegro, within the Montenegrin multi-ethnic society and outside it.
It is added that Đeka, praising the cooperation with the diaspora, said that human and minority rights in Montenegro are continuously developing.
"Minister Đeka attended the awarding of the honorary citizen of the City Council of the State of New York to the well-known activist and president of the Albanian community on Staten Island Nasser Niki, where David M. Carr, member of the council, 50 districts of the municipality of Staten Island, Kamila M. Hangs were also present at the award ceremony , as well as many other representatives of the City Council of the State of New York, and the famous model from Montenegro, Emina Čunmulaj Tina Lula," the announcement states.
Đeka also held a meeting with Charles Falla, a member of the New York State Assembly, with whom he discussed the contribution of members of the Albanian national minority in New York, which continuously maintains the connection with Montenegro, strengthens it and leaves a pledge for future generations.
It is stated that on that occasion Đeka was presented with a recognition by Fal, for his significant contribution and commitment to the advancement of human and minority rights.
"The Government of Montenegro has included the preservation and further development of respect for the rights of members of minority nations, inter-ethnic tolerance and multiculturalism among its priority national policies," said Đeka.
As written in the announcement, Đeka is the first minister from among the Albanian parties to visit "VATRA", the first Albanian organization in the USA that has existed since 1912, where he was welcomed by Paško Camaj, vice president of "VATRA" with his associates.
"We are proud of the long-term efforts made by this organization to support the Albanian community, it continues to serve as a bridge between Albanians and Americans, strengthening ties and mutual support," pointed out Đeka.
"Within the meetings held by Minister Đeka and State Secretary Astrit Hodža during the working visit, it was concluded that Montenegro, as a multi-ethnic and multicultural country that strives for a more inclusive and prosperous society, strives to strengthen the integration of minority communities and promote inter-ethnic tolerance and create a social environment in in which diversity will be seen as an asset, not an obstacle," the announcement concludes.
