The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was marked today with a round table in Bijelo Polje, organized by the Alliance coalition.
The secretary of the Association of Parents of Children and Youth with Disabilities "Oaz", Rasema Hekalo, pointed out the numerous problems they face, appealing to the national authorities to adopt laws that will improve their lives as soon as possible.
"Not only have we not progressed, but we are going backwards in some matters. The rights of PWDs have stagnated for four years, and we appeal to the national authorities to adopt laws as soon as possible that will improve the position of children and young people with disabilities," said Hekalo, adding yes, first of all, to the adoption of the Law on Uniform Disability Expertise, which would greatly contribute to the realization of the rights of PWDs.
The round table was also attended by representatives of the Small Group Community, Day Center "Tisa", the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Organization, as well as numerous representatives of associations dealing with PWD issues.
After the round table, people with disabilities walked through the city streets, and in front of the Hekalo Municipality building, she read the Proclamation, which indicates the necessity of working on systemic solutions in order to improve the position of PWDs.
